aldosteronism

= hyperaldosteronism; n.
overproduction of aldosterone, one of the hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex, usually due to a benign tumour (adenoma) in the cortex or hyperplasia of that tissue. It leads to abnormalities in the amounts of sodium, potassium, and water in the body. It is a rare cause of raised blood pressure (hypertension).
